Course Overview
Music Technology is a course for students that want to learn about composing, performing, and recording music with the help of modern hardware and software. Each student has an individual workstation with a computer. Areas of instruction will include beginning level music literacy, history of music technology, terminology and experience with several of today’s music applications. Students will also investigate components of sound engineering and the recording industry.

Grading

Class Participation. Students will be given class time to practice and work in groups. This grade reflects the student’s productivity during these times. Class participation also reflects punctuality and preparedness.

Tests and quizzes. These are both written and performance related.
Written assignments. Assignments must be handed in on time to receive full credit.

Homework Occasional assignments to be done outside of the class


Materials
Students need to bring the following to class:
1. Headphones with 1/8 phono jack (typical ipod type headphones)
2. A three ring-binder for note taking
3. Min. 1 Gig Thumb Drive (for backing up projects)
Make-up Work
A. A student who has been absent or dismissed is expected to make-up all school work.
B. In order to receive academic work for make-up a student must submit an excused absence.
C. The student should make arrangements with the teacher for making up assignments on the day they return to school.
D. Students are expected to complete such work in a reasonable period of time, generally five school days.


Tests/Quizzes
Performance related and written tests/quizzes will generally be announced.
A. Tardy students will be admitted to class but please be aware of the BOE tardy policy.
B. If an excused pass cannot be presented, the tardy will be counted as unexcused and the student will receive a grade of zero for any assignment or assignments missed.
C. Tardiness will also be reflected in the grading under “Class Participation”.
D. Excessive tardiness will be referred to Building Administration for further action.
